You don’t HAVE to finish everything in one place

The Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill & surrounding areas have an amazing diversity of people & careers. We get asked, all the time, can we start our training with you and finish somewhere tropical (we get it, we love traveling and diving as well)?  Short answer is yes, no problem at all. As the certification process is broken up into 3 sections, we can begin your training here (most often it’s the e-learning & the confined water sessions), and you can finish up on your vacation (generally takes 2 days to finish).

How does a referral work?

Starting with our shop and finishing with another is possible through a “Referral”. What happens is we will take you through as much of the training as you would like (most commonly e-learning & confined water), then fill out a form that you take with you to the participating dive shop to finish your training. It’s fairly common and straightforward process. We can also take referrals where you trained somewhere else and you need us to finish your dives (most commonly the open water dives).

Are there any “gotchas”?

It’s important the dive shop you choose to finish your diving both accepts the referring training agency of the initial shop AND is the agency you want to earn your certification through. For example, both PADI & SDI accept the online learning & confined water sessions of each other as a referral, but the Open Water portion will be conducted according to the agency standards & affiliation of the final dive shop. To be sure, contact each dive shop you plan on working with to ensure they accept the credentials of the referring shop.

You’ll also want to make sure you understand any gear rental fees as dive shops all handle the rental aspect a bit differently.

What will I need?

Regardless of if you are referring into our shop, or referring to another one from us, you’ll need a little paperwork from the shop/instructor. This paperwork has a detailed list of all the skills you’ve completed, the instructors certification # who completed it, and additional information to insure a smealess training experience. Most shops provide these referral free of charge but it’s always best to ask to avoid any suprises.
