DOMINICA 2026

About Dominica

On track to become the first climate-resilient nation in the world and most recently named a top destination to visit by Condé Nast Traveler, Dominica remains one of the few spots in the world unspoilt by the impacts of mass tourism and offers an ethical, environmentally supportive option for travelers. Embraced by lush foliage and secluded beaches throughout, the island fosters one’s most dream-like fascinations. With world-class diving, whale watching and boundless wildlife amongst the Caribbean’s longest hiking trail and only natural World Heritage site, Dominica realizes adventurous living amidst untrammeled natural splendour. Meander the island’s thermal spas, 365 rivers, dramatic waterfalls, well-preserved colonial architecture and the last remaining home of the indigenous Kalinago peoples.

About the island

Dominica is most known for its deep waters and lush landscape, but what makes Dominica stand out among other destinations is its deep rooted cultural history and preserved historical sites. Naming the island ‘Waitukubuli’—meaning “tall is her body”—to reflect the mountainous and elegant fertile land, the Kalinago people are the first inhabitants of the island. Dominica is home to the largest native population in the region, with 2,000 indigenous Kalinago people still living on the island, which keeps the cultural history and awareness alive. A representation of a pre-Columbian village, the Kalinago Barana Auté is one of the island’s most rich cultural attractions.

The Local City

Dominica’s capital and largest city, Roseau, was built upon the site of the ancient Kalinago village, making it the oldest and most significant urban settlement in Dominica. Served by the Canefield and Douglas-Charles Airports as well as the ferry terminal, and near to the famed Botanical Gardens, Boiling Lake, Morne Trois Pitons National Park, natural thermal spas and scenic plateaus, Fort Young Hotel’s location in the capital makes it the ideal homebase for visitors to explore Dominica’s cultural vibrancy.

Resort Information

Where city, reef and rainforest converge, Fort Young Hotel & Dive Resort is a full-service, heritage hotel on the Caribbean Sea. Boasting a coveted oceanfront location in the heart of Dominica’s vibrant capital, Roseau, and distinguished as the island’s only All-Inclusive offering, Fort Young provides unparalleled access to the heart of the island, while our modern, boutique-style accommodations and peerless amenities complete an idyllic Caribbean holiday. From seaside al fresco dining, entertainment and duty-free shopping on the resort’s waterfront, to the neighboring French Quarter’s Saturday markets and unfathomable adventures at your doorstep — waterfall hikes, hot spring soaks, rainforest walks and world-class scuba diving right off the dock — Fort Young Hotel & Dive Resort is your gateway to experiencing Dominica by both land and sea.

Diving Information

The dramatic mountains you can traverse on land across Dominica are mirrored in the topography of our underwater dive sites. Cliff faces plunge into the Caribbean Sea and descend straight down 1500 feet, pinnacles rise up from the surrounding depths almost to the surface and volcanic ridges slope off into the deep blue water.

Our dive sites are teeming with thriving, healthy coral reefs and unique schools of fish, while barracudas, turtles and stingrays frequently swim through dive groups along the reef rim, causing a delightful photographic frenzy. Comprised of gnarled volcanic ledges, crevices and swim-throughs, our reefs are a refuge for a myriad of small critters considered rare in other destinations. Here, seahorses and frogfish are almost guaranteed sightings for divers on a weeklong package. Other rarer critters like batfish, flying gurnards, yellow head jawfish, upside-down jellyfish and flamingo tongue snails can be found if you carefully search the reefs.

With Dominica’s incredibly warm seas and vibrant marine life, along with uncrowded dive sites and an excellent dive staff, Fort Young Dive is amongst the most premier diving operations in the world. Here, it’s our mission to ensure that divers simply can’t wait to come back.
