The Triangle Dive shop is based in Durham, NC inside Water World. Water World opened their doors in 1976 as a scuba shop and is the Raleigh & Durham area’s oldest dive shop. Raleigh Scuba Diving opened their doors in 2023 to bring a fresh approach to scuba training. In 2024, the shops merged together and rebranded the business; Triangle Dive Shop @ Water World. This merging of the two companies combines the experience from one of the oldest PADI IDC centers in the country with the passion, dedication to safety, adherence to standards and unparalleled training from one of the newest dive shops.
Triangle Dive Shop has a simple mission; to create amazing divers, support the dive community to the highest standards, treat every customer with respect and, most importantly, have fun!
Our instructors are certified to instruct through 3 of the largest training agencies in the US; SDI, TDI, DAN & PADI. We primarily teach in and around Raleigh & Durham, NC however our certifications allow us to instruct anywhere in the world. So whether we are conducting training dives in our local pool or quarry, off of the North Carolina coast or in another country during a trip, your instructor is qualified and has the experience to teach..
Instructors have certification levels, just like students. Our team of scuba instructors teach everything from Open Water Classes (the beginner scuba certification) to IDC’s (instructor development courses). We possess the majority of continuing education instructor certifications allowing us to teach popular certifications like Deep, Wreck, Enriched Air (Nitrox), Underwater Navigation, Search & Recovery, Full Face Mask, Dry Suit & many others.
Scuba is a very gear intensive sport. Well maintained equipment like regulators, tanks BCD’s, masks, fins, snorkels, rentals are vital to having a great diving experience. Our dive shop is located in Durham, NC and you can either call or email us for the lowest pricing on gear, service & rentals. We also have a business office located in Apex, NC where we can drop off & pick up rental gear.
Our mascot is a custom sketch made by a talented local artist who brought our ridiculous concept to life. It was then watercolored by another local artist. The image above is a photo of the original artwork, which hangs in the home of Amy & Brian.
Amy & Brian have a love affair with diving. From the first time each of them got into the water, they realized this was their church, their mecca, & their Mt. Everest. Over their careers, they became surrounded by friends & colleagues, and found their family. From group meals to impromptu game nights, this dive family truly is what diving embodies. Friends, food, fun, fracas, & family. It soaked into their core and became their life blood.
Having worked in the dive industry for years, they found existing scuba instruction & dive shops are far from their vision. In 2023, they made the decision to open their own dive shop; Raleigh Scuba Diving, a PADI, SDI & TDI training facility. The key to this decision was a steadfast determination to bring their vision of what diving should be to everyone. Like most businesses, they started small but built on their core principles: respect, honesty, patience, trust, dedication to the customer, & providing the best education & services possible. Their firm belief is their customers are family, and never a walking pocketbook.
The next city over, Water World has been in business since 1976. They began as a NAUI dive shop but changed over to PADI and is one of the oldest PADI IDC centers in the country. Water World soon expanded to boat and marina sales but maintained their scuba business as the owner, David, is a passionate diver and worked diligently to enable scuba divers in the area to do what they love. This effort is notable as Water World is one of the oldest dive shops in the country.
In 2024, Amy & Brian were approached by Water World to discuss the merging of their shops. In November of 2024, an agreement was struck between David, Amy & Brian and a new name was launched; the Triangle Dive Shop. This merger combines the passion, energy & safety focused training from Raleigh Scuba Diving and the experience, history & knowledge of Water World.
As adults, we forget how to play & scuba brings back that simple joy. Our mascot is the epitome of how we feel about diving. Scuba is our superpower. It provides the ability to fly & to visit a foreign world. At it’s core, it’s silliness, it’s simplicity, it’s joy, & it’s being a kid again. Being able to experience that at ANY age is what makes scuba diving amazing. So no, we won’t ride hammerhead sharks with an octopus stuck to our face, but it’s exactly how we feel while diving… unrestricted & free from all constraints. Whether it’s diving on a wreck for the first time, seeing an unknown fish, removing debris from a dive site, or figuring out that our breath controls nearly everything, we delight in each step. Our vernacular is simple, but our eyes speak novels. We want to share that with the world. The answer is never no; it’s let’s find out together.
