FLORIDA SPRINGS 2027

January 22–25, 2027

Freshwater spring and cavern‑style diving are the focus of this short, land‑based trip. Using waterfront lodging on King’s Bay, we’ll access nearby springs for multi‑dive days, optional manatee encounters, and relaxed evenings at the lodge — a compact, dive‑friendly program for recreational divers.

About the destination

The trip uses north‑central Florida as a base for exploring famous clear springs and cavern‑style sites. From waterfront lodging on King’s Bay (Crystal River) the program pairs short drives with long days in freshwater springs, making it easy to dive multiple sites and return to a relaxed, waterside base each evening.

Explore Crystal River, FL

Alachua and nearby small towns embody a relaxed, outdoors‑oriented north‑central Florida character, with historic downtown shopping, local cafés, and easy access to parks and preserves. Visitors can enjoy small‑town evenings and laid‑back hospitality.
The region also benefits from proximity to Gainesville’s broader cultural and dining scene, while Crystal River’s waterfront setting supports kayaking, paddleboarding, and locally guided manatee experiences — a mix of inland charm and waterside recreation.

Diving information

This trip visits north‑central Florida’s famous freshwater springs and cavern-style dive sites (Devil’s Den, Blue Grotto, Ginnie Springs and similar venues), where clear 72°F water and dramatic karst features create memorable dives. Expect shore or spring entries, cavern environments at some sites, and typically shallow to moderate depths suited to recreational divers. While most sites are accessible to Open Water certified divers, briefings and site‑specific precautions are required. Optional activities include a fee‑based manatee swim in Crystal River — participants must follow strict no‑touch and wildlife‑respect rules.

3 dives each day included (more if you’d like). You can dive all locations with your basic open water certification. We will have dive professionals on this trip to buddy with newer divers (if you wish). While the dive sites are good for brand new open water divers, caution should be exercised. Our dive guides will give thorough briefings on each site before the dive to explain the topology and things to look for. Diving with the Manatees is an additional fee (but well worth it). When diving with the manatees, please respect their habitat and adhere to the scuba diving rule of no touching.

Freshwater spring diving with cavern/cavern‑style features; year‑round 72°F water temperature.
Sites range from shallow swim‑in springs to cavern entries with overhangs; briefings required.
Visibility is generally very good in springs but can vary with flow and park conditions.
